Story: Tooting Broadway is an urban crime drama, whose South London location lends a gritty feel to a fast paced story that highlights a rarely seen gang culture. 24 hours before the Tamil protests outside the Houses of Parliament...

Synopsis: Tooting Broadway is an urban crime drama, whose South London location lends a gritty feel to a fast paced story that highlights a rarely seen gang culture.

24 hours before the Tamil protests outside the Houses of Parliament, Arun (Nav Sidhu) returns home to stop his younger brother Ruthi (Kabelan Verlkumar) from participating in a criminal act that could ruin his life. Arun is granted a day by his mysterious employer, Marcus (Oliver Cotton) to talk Ruthi round. Once back he meets an old flame, Kate (Elizabeth Henstridge) who is struggling with a big decision herself, while Aruns friendship with gang leader, Karuna (San Shella) threatens to suck him back into a world he left behind. The political tension provides the backdrop for Aruns need to forge a life away from his past misdeeds versus his obligation to his family, friends and his Tamil roots.

This is an unusual topic for a gang thriller but all the morecompelling for it. Tooting Broadway is a complex, dramatic and bloodylook at Tamal gang culture in south London, with broader politicalrelevance both in the UK and in Sri Lanka.

Because the action is in London whereas the political unrest comes froma country we never see (Sri Lanka), it can sometimes feel slightlyremoved from the issue. But with patience the story is rewarding andhas many surprising twists and turns.

There are other 'rude boy' films out there about violence and gangculture in London. So if that's all you're after then go see Kidulthoodor Ill Manors. This is something different.

From the very opening, the acting is just dire. The story line weak,the camera work and editing - in places - would embarrass a secondaryschool media class.

I tried to find something positive to say, but it's now half waythrough and there has not been single compelling moment. I only let itrun because it was so bad, I just wanted to see how much worse it couldget.

The only reason this film has any positive reviews probably comes downto astro-turfing by those that have made it. I can't believe there is ahuman on this planet who would find this even worth Streaminging on theirphones during a long journey.

Seriously - don't waste the 1 hour 30 of your life, you won't get itback.
